The on-grid solar plant is the most common and widely used system in businesses, industries, and homes. This system is connected with discom’s grid and does not require battery storage. Any excess power which is not used by consumers gets directly exported to the grid. Consumers get paid for that excess power generated according to FIT (Feed In Tariff) agreement. They do not work when grid power fails. This system is beneficial to reduce exorbitant tariffs.

The off-grid system is not connected to the discom grid. It is designed to give enough power to any establishment throughout the year. The high cost of batteries means it is more expensive than the on-grid system. In Gujarat state, this is only used in jungle areas and sea coasts.

It is a modern system which is a combination of the on-grid and off-grid systems. This means solar will not only store solar energy during the day but can also be used in the night. When the stored energy is depleted, the grid is there as a backup.
